Scrip is a fundraising program that works while you shop. At Harbour Shores we are calling it "Freedom 2 Shop."
Scrip is simply a word that means "substitute money." In other words, scrip is gift cards from national and local retailers. They're the same gift cards that you buy at the store. There are over 600 participating retailers in our scrip program including Walmart, Meijer, Sam's Club, Lowe's, Speedway, BP, Shell, Applebee's, Wendy's, CVS, Starbucks, iTunes, and many more. In a nut shell, families buy participating retailer's gift cards through us, Freedom 2 Shop. If you spend $25, you get a ful value $25 gift card, but the retailers donate a percentage to Freedom International. The idea is that families use gift cards for regular purchases such as groceries and gas. Through Scrip, they can make these same purchases & donate to Freedom International at the same time. The beauty of Scrip is that you put your regular household shopping dollars to work. You can earn money for Freedom International without spending a single additional penny! Scrip can be used for just about any household purchase including food, clothing, entertainment, gasoline, and even dining out.
If we could get 50 families using just $100 worth of gift cards each month, (ealily done with groceries alone), at an average of 6% donation from the retailers, Freedom would earn $300 a month.
After hearing about our idea and goals, Jason Hilgeman responded, "This one idea will probably fund different things throughout the years, but it would be enough to pay an entry level staff position - cook, watchman, etc. It could also cover six children's education. It would almost cover, and has the potential to cover completely, one Dominican teacher's salary for the year." Just think of the impact wee could have if we were able to go beyond our goal!!
There are so many ways to contribute to Freedom International Ministries without spending any extra money.
Could you do your regular grocery shopping using gift cards?
Could you buy gasoline regularly using gift cards?
Could you use gift cards to buy clothing, shoes, or school supplies?
Could you buy gift cards from us to give as Christmas or Birthday gifts?
Are you going to a movie or out to dinner? You can use a gift card to pay for that.
Do you have a household project? Use a gift card to buy your supplies.
Do you own a business? Gift cards could be used to buy supplies, send to customers as an appreciation gift, or be given to employees as gifts or incentive.
Are you holding an event at church, home or your business? Use gift cards to buy food & other supplies.
And of course, all your Christmas shopping can be done using gift cards.
So, how do you get your gift cards? First, you order and pay fo ryour gift cards through us. We combine all the orders and send it to the scrip organization. We will then receive all the gift cards, sort the cards into individual orders, and pass them out about 2 weeks after the initial order date. We will repeat this process as often as we have sufficient quantities. We wil also have a small amount of cards available on Sunday morning for the more popular retailers.
